The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Canada confirmed that a Canadian Refugee Travel Document (RTD) is accepted for entry into Azerbaijan.

However, holders of a Canadian RTD are required to obtain a visa before travelling to Azerbaijan.

A Canadian Permanent Resident Card does not remove the visa requirement. The Embassy indicated that the PR Card is required as proof of the traveller’s legal status in Canada.

Additional documentation is required for Canadian RTD holders applying for a tourist visa. In addition to the standard tourist visa requirements, applicants should provide:

– Bank statements covering the last three months.
– Travel insurance.
– Proof of residential address in Canada, such as a PR Card, work permit or study permit.

- Apply for an Azerbaijani tourist visa before travelling.
- Do not assume that holding a Canadian PR Card provides visa-free entry.
- Include proof of legal status in Canada with the visa application.
- Provide bank statements for the previous three months.
- Provide travel insurance.
- Provide proof of residential address in Canada.
