Canadian Refugee Travel Document (RTD) holders travelling to Brazil for tourism or leisure are required to obtain a Brazilian Visitor Visa (VIVIS) before travelling.

The Brazilian Consulate General in Vancouver confirmed that travel documents are generally accepted, but the documentation must be reviewed through the e-consular system. The consulate also confirmed that Canadian RTD holders applying through the visa form should select “Laissez-passer” when asked to identify their travel document type.

The Brazilian e-Visa available to Canadian passport holders should not be assumed to apply to Canadian RTD holders, as an RTD is not a Canadian passport.

Apply for a VIVIS (Visitor Visa) through the Brazilian e-consular system before travelling. When completing the visa application, select “Laissez-passer” as the travel document type, as instructed by the Brazilian Consulate General in Vancouver.

Applicants must first submit their request through the e-consular system and complete the required visa application form and document uploads. Applicants should wait for confirmation from the Consulate before mailing any documents. Once instructed, documents are submitted by Canada Post according to the consulate's requirements.
