Canadian Refugee Travel Document holders must obtain clearance from the competent Egyptian authorities before applying for a visa. The Egyptian Embassy states that the clearance process takes at least 8 weeks and may take up to 3 months. The Embassy will contact the applicant by telephone regarding the decision. Applicants should not make flight or hotel bookings before receiving clearance.

Once clearance is obtained, the original passport/travel document, original Canadian Residence Permit (PR), and completed application form must be provided either in person or by post. The travel document must be valid for at least 6 months on the date the visa is issued, and the Canadian PR or Work Permit must also be valid for at least 6 months. Applicants must provide two recent colour passport photographs with a white background and a completed and signed application form. Egyptian authorities may request additional documents.

The visa fee depends on the applicant’s nationality. The Egyptian visa application form also asks for the applicant’s travel-document type and number, nationality, nationality at birth, purpose of visit, number of entries, port of entry, intended arrival date, length of stay, address in Egypt, previous visits to Egypt, and other personal and travel information.

For applicants residing in British Columbia, the Consular Section of the Egyptian Embassy in Ottawa has jurisdiction. The same jurisdiction also covers Ottawa, Gatineau, Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, and Yukon. The Consulate General of Egypt in Montreal covers Ontario outside Ottawa, Quebec outside Gatineau, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Canadian RTD holders should contact the Egyptian Embassy in Ottawa and begin the clearance process well in advance of travel. Allow at least 8 weeks and potentially up to 3 months for clearance. Do not purchase flights or hotels before clearance is obtained. After clearance, submit the original RTD, valid Canadian PR/Work Permit, photographs, completed and signed application form, and applicable fee according to the Embassy's instructions.
